Meet Our Defenders
Defending against sophisticated cyber threats takes more than technology. It takes people. People with skills and innate qualities to outpace today’s evolving threat landscape. Qualities we call “defender DNA.”
Matthew Collins | Information Security Engineer
What drives you to be a Defender?
A strong calling to serve others, to protect customers’ critical information and most valuable assets, and to help organizations’ security-related practices be most effective is what drives me to be a defender. Information protection maintains an organization’s competitive advantage, prevents job loss, and supports uninterrupted operational capability.
What is your strongest defender DNA quality?
Curiosity. In a complex environment, curiosity drives me to dig into the problem, analyze what is happening in a system, and identify novel solutions that address the root cause of the problem. Many times, curiosity also allows me to identify future challenges for a customer.
How do you prove you have defender DNA?
After performing extensive research, I simplify my findings into clear and actionable solutions for the customer to address problems before they arise. Working with the CERT organization for many years refined my ability to identify problems and to use research and analysis which builds trust and provides a clear example of defender DNA to my customers.
How does your defender DNA benefit Leidos clients?
My defender DNA drives me to pay close attention to even the smallest detail, to leave no stone unturned, and to provide clear solutions that address the core security problems faced by our customers. I ensure my actions help the customer address both current and future challenges for their organization.
